Finding Strength During Your Most Difficult Times

Finding Strength During Your Most Difficult Times

Life isn’t always easy. At times, it feels like the weight of the world is pressing down on us—relationships break, jobs are lost, sickness strikes, and dreams seem to crumble. In these dark and difficult seasons, we can feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and even forgotten. But as believers, we are not without hope. God’s Word gives us powerful promises and unshakable truths to cling to, especially in our weakest moments.

In this blog, we’ll explore how to find strength during your most difficult times, not by your own might, but through faith in the One who holds all things together—Jesus Christ.

1. Recognize That Struggles Are Part of Life

First, we must acknowledge that trials are part of the human experience—even for believers.

“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.”
– 1 Peter 4:12 (NIV)

Peter reminds us that we should not be shocked when difficulties arise. Jesus Himself warned us in John 16:33:

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33 (NIV)

Understanding that suffering is a reality helps us to stop asking “Why me?” and begin asking, “God, what do you want to show me through this?”

2. Lean Into God’s Strength, Not Your Own

When you’re at the end of your rope, know that God never expects you to carry your burdens alone. In fact, He invites you to trade your weakness for His strength.

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
– 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

Paul understood that God’s strength shines brightest in our lowest moments. Instead of hiding our struggles or trying to tough it out alone, we are called to surrender—to hand over our fears, doubts, and weariness to the Lord.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
– Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

God is not looking for your perfection; He’s looking for your dependence.

3. Speak the Promises of God Over Your Situation

There is power in speaking God’s Word into your circumstances. The Bible is filled with promises that offer comfort, hope, and strength. Here are a few to declare over your life when times get tough:

  • Isaiah 41:10:

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

  • Psalm 46:1-2:

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…”

  • Romans 8:28:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

  • Philippians 4:13:

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

When you are weary, let these truths wash over your heart. Speak them out loud. Post them around your home. Let the Word be your weapon in the battle.

4. Surround Yourself with Godly Encouragement

In times of difficulty, isolation can make things worse. That’s why it’s essential to stay connected to other believers who can lift you up in prayer, speak life into your situation, and walk alongside you.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
– Galatians 6:2 (NIV)

Find a trusted friend, pastor, or small group where you can be real about your struggles. You’ll be surprised how much strength you gain just by knowing you’re not alone.

5. Remember That God Is Working Behind the Scenes

When you can’t see the outcome, trust that God is still working. His silence does not mean His absence. He is always in control, even when life feels like chaos.

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
– Exodus 14:14 (NIV)

Often, it’s in our waiting seasons that God is preparing something greater than we could ever imagine. What feels like a setback may be a setup for His glory to be revealed in your life.

“Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”
– Psalm 30:5 (NIV)

Hold onto that hope. God has not forgotten you.

6. Let Suffering Grow Your Faith

While no one enjoys hardship, suffering has a unique ability to refine our faith and draw us closer to God. When we press into Him in the hard times, our relationship deepens, and our spiritual roots grow stronger.

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
– Romans 5:3–4 (NIV)

Sometimes, the greatest growth happens in the darkest valleys. Let your pain be the soil in which your faith flourishes.

Final Thoughts

If you’re walking through a storm right now, know this: you are not forgotten, you are not forsaken, and you are not alone. God sees you. He hears your cries. And He promises to walk with you every step of the way.

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”
– Psalm 23:4 (NIV)

Finding strength during your most difficult times is not about denying your pain. It’s about embracing the presence of a loving God who never leaves you, even when everything else seems to fall apart.

So don’t give up. Keep pressing in. Your breakthrough may be just around the corner.

And remember: God is your refuge. Your strength. Your ever-present help in trouble.
