Practical Ways to Strengthen Your Faith

Practical Ways to Strengthen Your Faith

by Walks With The Lord

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

Faith is the cornerstone of the Christian life. It’s what moves mountains, gives us peace in the storm, and keeps us walking when the path ahead is unclear. But let’s be honest — there are times when our faith feels weak, flickering like a candle in the wind. The good news? Faith is not static. Like a muscle, it grows stronger with intentional use and care.

In today’s post, I want to share some practical, real-life ways you can strengthen your faith. Whether you’re in a season of spiritual drought or simply looking to deepen your relationship with the Lord, these habits can help anchor you more deeply in Him.

1. Start and End Your Day with God

One of the simplest but most profound ways to grow in faith is to begin and end each day with the Lord. Think of it like bookends — it holds your day together and invites God into the rhythm of your life.

  • Morning: Before the noise of the world drowns out the whisper of God, spend 10-15 minutes in Scripture and prayer. Reflect on His promises. Invite Him into your plans.

  • Evening: Take time to thank Him for the day, even the hard parts. Ask where you saw His hand and where you struggled. This habit builds gratitude and awareness of God’s presence.

Faith grows when we intentionally recognize God’s activity in our daily lives.

2. Immerse Yourself in God’s Word

Romans 10:17 reminds us that faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Reading the Bible isn’t just a duty; it’s spiritual nourishment. It’s in the pages of Scripture that we encounter the character of God — His faithfulness, His mercy, His justice, His love.

Tips to get started:

  • Pick a reading plan: Try the Bible in a Year, a 30-day devotional, or the Gospels.

  • Use a journal: Write down what stands out. What questions do you have? What is God saying?

  • Speak it aloud: Faith grows when we hear the Word — not just read it silently.

If reading the Bible feels overwhelming, start small. One chapter a day can be enough to shift your focus and open your heart.

3. Join a Faith Community

You were not meant to walk this journey alone. Community strengthens faith. When we gather with other believers, we encourage one another, pray for each other, and share testimonies that stir hope.

If you don’t already belong to a local church, I encourage you to find one that teaches the Word of God and fosters discipleship. Additionally, joining a small group, Bible study, or prayer circle can help you grow deeper roots.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17

Even online communities (like Christian forums or prayer groups) can be valuable if you’re in a season where in-person fellowship is difficult.

4. Memorize Scripture

God’s Word is our sword against doubt, fear, and temptation. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He responded with Scripture. If He needed it, how much more do we?

How to get started:

  • Choose one verse a week.

  • Write it on sticky notes or index cards.

  • Set it as your phone wallpaper or alarm label.

  • Repeat it throughout your day — out loud if possible.

Some great verses to begin with:

  • Hebrews 11:1

  • Isaiah 41:10

  • Philippians 4:13

  • Psalm 23:1

Memorizing Scripture not only strengthens your mind — it builds up your spirit.

5. Keep a Faith Journal

Journaling your faith journey is a powerful way to reflect on where God has brought you. It can be a place to write your prayers, record answered prayers, wrestle with questions, and document spiritual victories.

Over time, when you flip back through those pages, you’ll see the evidence of God’s faithfulness — even when you didn’t feel it at the time. That’s fuel for stronger faith.

Ideas for your journal:

  • Daily gratitude list

  • Prayers and how God answered

  • Questions or doubts you’re processing

  • Scriptures that speak to you

  • Praise reports and testimonies

6. Practice Active Obedience

Faith without works is dead (James 2:17). Sometimes, the best way to strengthen your faith is to act on it. When God nudges your heart, obey — even if it’s uncomfortable.

  • Forgive someone.

  • Tithe when money feels tight.

  • Speak truth when it’s easier to stay quiet.

  • Step into a ministry or serve someone in need.

Faith grows when we step into the unknown and discover that God meets us there.

7. Fast and Pray

Fasting isn't just about abstaining from food — it’s about making room for God. Whether it's food, social media, TV, or something else that consumes your time and attention, setting it aside to focus on prayer can deepen your dependence on the Lord.

Fasting trains your spirit to hunger for God more than anything else. When combined with prayer and the Word, it becomes a spiritual reset button — clarifying, refining, and empowering your faith.

8. Surround Yourself with Faith-Filled Content

What you feed your mind will either build your faith or drain it. Evaluate the music, podcasts, books, and media you consume.

Suggestions:

  • Listen to worship music that centers your heart.

  • Subscribe to Christian podcasts that teach and inspire.

  • Read Christian biographies and testimonies.

  • Replace negative scrolling with devotionals or apps like YouVersion.

Let your inputs align with the life you want to grow. Faith comes not only by hearing — but by what we choose to hear most often.

9. Serve Others in Love

Serving is faith in action. When you pour yourself out for others — feeding the hungry, visiting the lonely, mentoring the young — you become the hands and feet of Jesus.

Faith doesn’t grow in isolation. It grows in love. As you step into someone else’s pain with hope and grace, your own faith is built. You begin to see God’s heart and purposes more clearly.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7

10. Ask God for More Faith

Finally, never forget that faith is a gift. If you're feeling weak or uncertain, ask God to increase your faith.

Remember the father in Mark 9:24 who cried, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” That humble, honest prayer is a powerful place to start. God never despises a seeking heart.

Final Thoughts

Faith isn’t just for mountaintop moments. It’s for Mondays, for laundry piles, for hospital visits, for parenting challenges, for times of grief, and for seasons of silence.

If your faith feels small today — don’t be discouraged. Jesus said all it takes is faith the size of a mustard seed to move mountains (Matthew 17:20). What matters is not the size of your faith but the object of your faith — and our God is faithful and true.

Which of these practical habits will you try this week? I’d love to hear your thoughts, experiences, or even your struggles in the comments below. Let’s grow together in our walk with the Lord.

If you have any additional suggestions for strengthening faith, please share them! Your insight may be just what someone else needs to hear.

Let’s Close in Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of faith and for Your unchanging presence in our lives. Lord, we confess that there are times when our faith wavers, when doubts cloud our hearts, and when fear tries to steal our peace. But we know that You are greater.

Teach us to trust You more. Help us to build daily habits that anchor us in Your Word and draw us closer to You. Lead us into community, into worship, into service, and into a deeper love for You. Strengthen us when we are weak and remind us that You are always near.

Lord, we ask — increase our faith. Let it be genuine, growing, and glorifying to You in all that we do.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thank you for walking with me today. Keep walking with the Lord — He walks with you.
Until next time,
