Scriptures to Pray During Spiritual Warfare

Scriptures to Pray During Spiritual Warfare

Blog: Walks With the Lord

Spiritual warfare is not a figment of the imagination or a metaphorical concept—it is a real and present battle that every believer faces. Though we cannot always see the spiritual realm, we feel the effects of it daily in our minds, hearts, and circumstances. Thankfully, God has not left us defenseless. His Word is our sword, our shield, and our strategy. When we pray Scripture during times of spiritual warfare, we align ourselves with divine truth and invite God’s power into our struggle.

In this post, we’ll explore powerful scriptures to pray during spiritual warfare. These verses are weapons in the hands of the faithful—tools that declare victory over fear, temptation, anxiety, oppression, and the enemy’s schemes.

Let’s dive into the Word and discover how to pray boldly and confidently in the battle.

1. Ephesians 6:10-18 – The Armor of God

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
—Ephesians 6:10-11 (NIV)

Before we can fight, we must be equipped. Paul gives us a divine blueprint for protection: the Armor of God. Pray each piece as a daily declaration.

Prayer:
Lord, I put on the belt of truth to stand on Your promises. I wear the breastplate of righteousness, knowing that Christ has made me clean. I walk in the shoes of peace, ready to share the gospel. I lift the shield of faith to extinguish the flaming arrows of the enemy. I place the helmet of salvation on my head to guard my thoughts, and I wield the sword of the Spirit—Your Word—as my offense. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

2. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 – Tearing Down Strongholds

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world... they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”
—2 Corinthians 10:3-4 (NIV)

Many battles are fought in the mind—where fear, doubt, and lies try to take root. But we have power in prayer to demolish those strongholds.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I come against every lie that exalts itself against Your truth. I take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Tear down the strongholds in my mind—whether they are fear, anxiety, shame, or addiction. Fill me with Your Spirit and renew my thinking with Your truth. Amen.

3. James 4:7 – Submit and Resist

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
—James 4:7 (NIV)

Spiritual warfare begins with submission. Only in surrender to God do we gain the authority to resist Satan.

Prayer:
Father, I humble myself before You. I submit my will, my heart, and my life to You. In Jesus’ name, I resist every plan of the enemy, every temptation, and every dark influence. Cause the enemy to flee from me and my family. I trust in Your covering and power. Amen.

4. Psalm 91 – The Psalm of Protection

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
—Psalm 91:1 (NIV)

This psalm is a fortress of faith. It reminds us that God is our refuge in times of trouble.

Prayer:
Lord, I dwell in Your shelter and take refuge under Your wings. I trust You to deliver me from the snare of the enemy and the deadly pestilence. Your faithfulness is my shield. I will not fear the terror of night or the arrow that flies by day. I claim Your promise that no harm will overtake me, for You have commanded angels to guard me. Thank You for Your covering. Amen.

5. Isaiah 54:17 – No Weapon Formed Shall Prosper

“No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.”
—Isaiah 54:17 (NIV)

This is not a promise that weapons won't be formed—it’s a promise they won’t succeed.

Prayer:
God, I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper. Every lie spoken against me will fall flat. You are my defender and my vindicator. I place my trust in Your justice and protection. Let every scheme of the enemy be exposed and destroyed. Amen.

6. Romans 8:37 – More Than Conquerors

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
—Romans 8:37 (NIV)

Spiritual warfare is real, but so is our victory. Christ already conquered sin, death, and darkness.

Prayer:
Thank You, Lord, that I am more than a conqueror through Christ. No matter what I face, I know You are with me and that nothing can separate me from Your love. I declare victory in this battle not because of who I am, but because of who You are. Amen.

7. 1 Peter 5:8-9 – Be Alert and Stand Firm

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion... Resist him, standing firm in the faith.”
—1 Peter 5:8-9 (NIV)

Awareness is a crucial aspect of spiritual warfare. The enemy is active—but so is our God.

Prayer:
Lord, keep me alert and discerning. Help me not to be distracted or deceived by the enemy’s tactics. Strengthen my faith so that I can stand firm and unwavering. Remind me that I am not alone—believers around the world are standing too. Keep me rooted in You. Amen.

8. Philippians 4:6-7 – Peace Over Anxiety

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
—Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

Fear is a favorite tool of the enemy. But God offers us supernatural peace through prayer.

Prayer:
Father, I release my anxiety and worries to You. I refuse to let fear dominate my mind. I bring every need and burden to You with thanksgiving, trusting that Your peace will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Fill me with calm confidence in Your presence. Amen.

9. Revelation 12:11 – The Power of the Blood and Testimony

“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”
—Revelation 12:11 (NIV)

Victory in spiritual warfare is sealed in the blood of Jesus. Our testimony is a weapon of truth.

Prayer:
Jesus, I plead Your blood over my life, my family, and my home. Your sacrifice has defeated the power of sin and death. I declare my testimony—that You have saved me, transformed me, and made me new. Let my story glorify You and drive back the darkness. Amen.

10. Matthew 16:19 – Binding and Loosing

“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven...”
—Matthew 16:19 (NIV)

Jesus gave us authority to pray with kingdom power.

Prayer:
In the name of Jesus, I bind every spirit of confusion, fear, and division. I loose peace, love, healing, and restoration over my life. I walk in the authority of the keys of the Kingdom. Let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

Final Thoughts

If you’re in the midst of a battle today, take heart. You are not alone. The Lord of Hosts fights with you and for you. Arm yourself daily with His Word, and don’t hesitate to call on the name of Jesus.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
I thank You for Your Word, which is alive and powerful. I thank You for equipping me for the battles I face—not with fear, but with faith. Teach me to pray with boldness, to stand on Your truth, and to trust in Your victory. Lord, be my defender, my deliverer, and my peace. I cover myself and my loved ones with the blood of Jesus and declare that the enemy has no power over us. Strengthen us for the fight, and let Your glory be revealed through every struggle.
In Jesus’ mighty name,
Amen.

With you on the journey,
